Determination, Persistence, Perseverance ,Resilience

Luke 18:1-8

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’”

There was a lady who kept coming to a judge who neither feared God nor respected man for justice. Because he eventually got tired of her continually bothering him, he gave her what she desired.

This isn’t an analogy of your relationship with Jesus. You don’t bother Him with your prayers and He does not give you the desires of your heart because He gets tired of you.

However, I do believe this is an analogy of us pressing towards something, pressing towards what we aspire, our goals, our dreams.

This parable is such a clear vision of what determination, persistence, perseverance and resilience do. Every single time we work, we put in effort, those add up and eventually pay off. Not because of luck, but because of the pressure each effort puts on our future.

Every single little thing we do to work towards our goals counts.

It is only because this widow had come to see the judge so many times that he finally accepted to grant her justice. He was fed up, the pressure she put on him had accumulated and it eventually broke his resistance.

You’re not wasting your energy, your time, your money, your intelligence.

It is only because you will keep working, because you will remain determined, persistent, perseverant, no matter what the trials, over and over that you will make it.

Each step no matter how small, insignificant, failed it looks is a step closer to your goal.

If you keep pushing, you will make it. If you keep getting back up each time you fall, you will make it. But it is something that eyes can’t see. You have to believe that things are moving even if you can’t see anything.

It was tough but she made it, so can you.

Blessings,
