IF A BLACK MAN DIES
This poem is strictly correlated to the poem entitled Dear American World. Please, read it beforehand.

Know that it wasn't necessarily his fault
If a black man dies,
Know that he might have children
waiting for him at home
If a black man dies,
Know that he could have had a light to share
If a black man dies,
Know there are some things
he might have wanted to repair
If a black man dies,
Know that he might have spread love,
coming from above
He might have changed the world
if he hadn't been a victim of his "color"
If a black man dies,
Know that he had a life,
a human life,
just like you and I.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL

You are beautiful,
Your skin is not too dark
for you to feel meaningful.
They washed our brains with that light skin sheet
But the truth is, that ain't it.
You are Beautiful, Powerful,
Desirable, Unbreakable.
No man on earth should ever have to complain
That He used so much creativity to paint us and
I don't ever want to hear that phrase
"You're beautiful for a dark skinned girl,"
coming from any of my brothers
"You're beautiful for a black girl."
Who are you, sir
to put such diminishment on my sisters?
We're beautiful
because you don't hold the standards.
We are beautiful,
made by the Creator of the stars.
